PRINCETON PLASMA PHYSICS LABORATORY WITH A GUIDED TOUR THROUGH PRINCETON AND PRINCETON UNIVERSITY Princeton, NJ Wednesday, April 9, 2014 10 am
Led by John Gillham & Joe Macasek. On this all day tour, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, we will explore Princeton and Princeton University with a stop for lunch. In Princeton we will visit places associated with George Washington, Paul Robeson, Albert Einstein and Woodrow Wilson. On campus we could visit Nassau Hall, the Princeton University Chapel, the Art Museum and the Firestone Library. In the afternoon we will travel to the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) for a guided tour of the facility. The mission of the PPPL of the Department of Energy is to discover how to harness the fusion reaction of the sun's power to produce on earth safe clean and abundant energy. After the tour there will be a lecture at PPPL by RCSIA member Clifford Zink titled The Role of Trenton Iron and Steel in Shaping America. All are welcome to attend.
Since the PPPL is a government facility, please email Joe Macasek at macgraphics1@verizon.net. to register for this tour in advance. Include your name and citizenship. Attendance is limited. Please register before March 19th. You will need to show a government issued photo ID (passport if non-citizen) to enter the facility.
There will be moderate walking in the town and through the University campus. We will meet at the Princeton Public Library for the 10:00 am start. There is a charge for parking in the adjacent parking garage. A map will be provided to those who register with directions and information. Public transportation is available via NJ Transit to Princeton Junction with a rail connection (on the "Dinky") to Princeton Station located a pleasant one mile walk from the library. The PPPL is several miles north of Princeton off US 1 at the James Forrestal Campus of Princeton University exit. Those without a car will join those who have them.
