The Roebling Chapter is the New York/New Jersey regional chapter of the national Society for Industrial Archeology. The Chapter promotes the study of the physical survivals of the technological and industrial past in our region. (Roebling Chapter Bylaws-PDF)

Our activities include an annual meeting in January, a corn roast in the late summer, a Symposium in the fall, and ad hoc field trips to sites of interest year round. Recent trips have included descending into the caissons of Pier 57 in Manhattan and touring the abandoned factory site at Feltville, NJ.

Since 2003, the Roebling Chapter has presented the “John Augustus Roebling Award for Contributions to Industrial Archeology” in recognition of an individual, group, or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to documenting or preserving the industrial heritage of the greater New York-New Jersey area. This annual award includes a citation read at our Symposium, a framed certificate and a cash award of $250.

Our e-news keeps members informed of Chapter activities and items of IA interest. The Roebling Chapter hosted the 31st annual SIA national conference in 2002, as well as the 14th annual conference in 1985 and the annual fall tour in 1987. 

Roebling Chapter membership is $20 for the calendar year; households that receive a single newsletter mailing pay the same amount. Memberships received after October 15th will be good for the following year. You may join the Chapter without being a member of the national SIA, but national membership is encouraged and is required if you wish to be a voting member of the Chapter.
