This is a trip by boat ("Estuary Steward") from Beacon NY to Pollepel Island on which is the fast disintegrating Bannerman Castle. This was built as a munitions warehouse and sales location by Mr Bannerman in early 1900s.
We will be part of a general tour (not a private SIA tour). We have an expert guide for the island which has some rough terrain and steps to be negotiated - sensible shoes are a must. No hard hats are needed as we will not be inside the castle - it is too dangerous.
The boat leaves Beacon at 12:30. Bring some refreshment and sandwich etc to have on the island. There is nothing available for purchase on the island. The return boat back to Beacon will be at about 3:00.
For those coming by train, Metro North 8819 is scheduled to leave Grand Central at 10:43 arriving at Beacon at 12:16. The most likely return train leaves Beacon at 3:58 and arrives at GCT at 5:26.
Bannerman Trust charges $35 per visitor (this may be partially tax deductible - we have to check). Advance commitment to this is REQUIRED to hold space on the boat for you. No shows will be charged.
We have reserved some seats on the boat but will have to release unused seats by Wed 5th Oct - after that we cannot guarantee space. So please respond ASAP.
Tours depart rain or shine.
